Rotaractors Join Colac Rotary

After seven successful years of community service and fellowship, the Otway Rotaract Club has made the difficult decision to end its charter, effective from the 30th of June. The club, which has been actively involved in various service projects and initiatives, has faced challenges stemming from declining membership and stretched resources across Rotaract and two local Rotary Clubs.

Rotaract President Mitchell Everett expressed his gratitude for the club's accomplishments over the years but acknowledged the realities that led to this decision. He said, "It is with mixed emotions that we announce the conclusion of our charter. The Otway Rotaract Club has made a significant impact in our community, and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved."

Mr Everett also thanked the Rotary Club of Colac West for their ongoing contributions and help in forming the Rotaract Club seven years ago. “Colac West was instrumental in the beginning of the Club, and we’ve worked with them on joint projects since the beginning. We’re looking forward to being able to continue to work with them moving forward as well.”

As the Otway Rotaract Club disbands, all current Rotaract members will be warmly welcomed into the Rotary Club of Colac. Notably, former Rotaractor and Rotarian Kris Seabert will be rejoining the club as President Elect, bringing valuable experience and a fresh perspective to the Rotary Club of Colac.

Geoff De La Rue, President of the Rotary Club of Colac, expressed his excitement about the influx of new members and their potential impact on the club's future. He stated, "We are delighted to have the former members of the Otway Rotaract Club join us at the Rotary Club of Colac. Their dedication to service and their passion for making a difference will undoubtedly enrich our club's activities and strengthen our community engagement."

The Rotary Club of Colac is committed to building upon the Otway Rotaract Club's successful initiatives. One such project is the Eat Up program, which has provided over 10,000 sandwiches to hungry children in local schools. The club aims to continue this vital initiative and expand its efforts to address food insecurity in the region.

Prospective members who wish to join the Rotary Club of Colac are invited to attend the club's weekly meetings, held every Wednesday night at the Colac RSL. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the club's activities, network with like-minded individuals, and contribute to meaningful projects that make a lasting impact in the community.
